Cream of Wheat Cereal
Updated: Jan 9, 2021
Servings: 1 bowl
Storage Life of Ingredients: 20 years if stored properly
This cereal has a smooth, nutty flavor. It is filling and gives me energy all morning long.

Cream of wheat was a family favorite when I was growing up. It is particularly delicious when served with hot chocolate and toast on a cold winter day.

Pictured Process
For 1 bowl of cream of wheat cereal you only need 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons of cream of wheat. My husband likes it best with 2 tablespoons of cream of wheat.

In your wheat grinder, turn the dial to courser and grind your wheat. See the post on milling wheat if you need more complete directions.

Bring a cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Gradually add the wheat, whisking constantly so it doesn't clump. If you try to put the wheat in all at once, it will boil up and clump. Make sure you add it gradually.

Continue whisking the wheat for 5-10 minutes until the desired consistency is reached.

I like it served with brown sugar and milk.

Storage Tips
Wheat: If whole wheat berries are stored in airtight containers with oxygen absorber packages in a cool, dry place, their storage life is 20 or more years. Grind your own cream of wheat as you need it. The milled wheat will start losing nutrients as soon as it is milled. Store any extra in a freezer bag in the freezer. Label it with the date it was milled. The wheat will last 6 months in the freezer.
